Adapting

Equipment ideas. Things we do to make special needs life work

I’ll be adding to this list bit by bit.  Lots of ideas!  So far we have:

To SWIM: Way beyond Water Wings

Toileting and Diapers   (What happens when….?) Medical Alert

To Drink

On Pinterest I’ve listed the things we use (and have used in the past).

Take a peek at these boards:

This is our son's lounge chair. REALLY awesome! We can tilt it just right and use NO straps. Usually he has about 10 straps on his body. We had to import it from England and altogether I think it was about 5K out of pocket. Crazy expensive like all things in special needs world!TO EAT. His feeding pump. We carry it in a little bookbag. Runs about 11 hours per day right now. By far the best one we've used.TO WALK. A great gait trainer for kids that move constantly like my boy!TO EAT, We love the new and improved AMT Mini way better than MicKey buttons. Lower profile and just better! We use one like this in our garage...not sure of the brand

TO POTTY, he has all of the additional pieces, not shown. Not my favorite because of plastic gears that don't hold and an awful vest that fell apart. We ended up strapping ankle weights on and using a chest strap to make it work. we also had to remove the flimsy tray.First bath chair. We got this one around 1 year old.TO SIT around town, great when he was little. We'd strap it in grocery carts, restaurant chairs, you name it.TO WALK, started this at a year. PT didn't think he could do it with as weak as his trunk and head control were...but he did! Very versatile. We took it everywhere!

  1. I am moved by your life story and blog and what you do for women in communities. I plan to learn more. I have a daughter adopted from West African and the orphanage there does much work with women. They recently received a shipment of shoes from Toms….she posted pictures, it was incredible. Thank you
